76I say "HIPPIE", meaning "ALL NATURAL"...
Think back to the "Hippie Era"... It was a time of "Love, Peace, and Happiness"... "Love, Not War!"... Sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll! "
"Hippies" are people in love with nature and all that surrounds it. They believe in freedom, flower-power, and a world free of war and control. Not to mention, really great hair!
Here are 6 of my most favorite "Hippie" hairstyles:
I love the "All-Natural" look. And it's so simple to style! If anything at all, all you would really need is some styling spray, maybe some shine serum, or mousse, but that's it! With long hair, it's best to use a medium, to large round brush, or curling iron. This will cause hair to be fuller and give it more movement. Everyone will want to touch your hair! And when you style your hair in an "updo", you can just "pile" it on top of your head and use bobby pins! (clips, barrettes, etc, etc...)

I think this post is all wrong. Most of the people you said looked good as hippies, really don't seem that free or open minded at all and the one's you said shouldn't try to be hippies are the one's being criticized by society for being a little out there... You're just stupid. And you seem a bit young.

This hub was so much fun to read! I've always loved a natural look for hair, but you do have to be careful and not leave it too wild. The hippie dogs are awesome. :-)
This hub is adorable. As noted above, "real" hippies from the '60s and '70s were not necessarily styling with mousse. They were truly au naturel. But the long, waving look is lovely on some people. LOVE that you included Michelle Pfeiffer in your list! Also, while I find Drew Barrymore a beautiful woman, that is not the best shot of her. I think she needs a little more glam.
Totally agree -- the HIltons and Ms. Ritchie should give up. I think they cancelled "The Simple Liife" years ago, Nicole and Paris.
Other "dos" that I've seen wear the look well include Courtney Cox Arquette and Jennifer Anniston...

It's funny- here in NY, some people consider "hairy" as being just as much man as they are women... Should I pose an arguement? Sure, why not! (But I am hairless, I swear! LOL)
You are right... there are many other cultures that have no problem with feminine hirsuteness ( I Think I just invented a new word )...In fact, most cultures are comfortable with hairy armpits and shaggy legs...France and Germany come to mind...I realize I was being judgemental in my comment...( turns around, bends over, accepts two lashes to exposed rump )...
Perhaps you could put your masterful investigative talents to work and publish a Hub on this....kind of a side by side comparison with USA and the world...

Shannon...They would have slapped any hippie that came near them....hippies smelled... personal hygiene was not a hippie attribute...also, the women, with hairy legs and armpits, didn't exactly turn me on...their free love was just an aphorism for sexual promiscuity...pretty disgusting... Ann-Margret they were not...

Shannon..Great Hub...Got me remembering my daughters back in the 70's and how they wore their hair back then....they are both natural blonds with very fine, long hair. They would actually lay their hair on an ironing board and press it flat every morning before school...Straight and long was all the rage then...

I wouldn't call any of those men hairstyles hippy, besides the fros. The short hairstyles are styled, too much maintenance for hippie guys. Their hair is usually just shaggy. All my male friends who go to doofs have long hair, some do have side partings but not these short emo/metro styled cuts. You picked some good female hairstyles but I can't agree with all of them.
